Knee

Collateral ligament injuries recover well with structured rehabilitation.

Injuries to the knee's collateral ligaments can cause pain and instability during side-to-side movement. We assess the severity of the injury and progressively rebuild strength, control and movement confidence.

Common symptoms

  • Pain on the inner (MCL) or outer (LCL) side of the knee
  • Swelling along the affected ligament
  • Instability or giving way during side-stepping or pivoting
  • Pain with valgus or varus stress on the knee
  • Reduced confidence during sport or lateral movement

Common causes

  • Direct blow to the outside of the knee (MCL)
  • Direct blow to the inside of the knee (LCL)
  • Twisting injury during sport
  • Landing awkwardly from a jump
  • Combined force during a tackle or collision

How Stance approaches mcl & lcl injuries

We assess the grade of ligament injury and current functional limitations. Treatment progressively restores range of motion, strength and stability through a phased protocol appropriate to the severity of injury.
