Shoulder

Overhead pain has a cause. We find and address it.

Shoulder impingement can cause pain during lifting or overhead movement. We assess shoulder mobility, muscle function and movement patterns to reduce irritation and improve your ability to load the shoulder.

Common symptoms

  • Pain during overhead reaching or lifting
  • Pain with pressing movements in the gym
  • Discomfort lying on the affected shoulder
  • A catching or pinching sensation during arm elevation
  • Weakness or fatigue with sustained arm use

Common causes

  • Reduced rotator cuff strength or coordination
  • Poor scapular control during arm movement
  • Reduced thoracic spine mobility
  • Sudden increase in overhead training volume
  • Sustained overhead work or repetitive arm use

How Stance approaches shoulder impingement

We assess rotator cuff and scapular muscle function, thoracic mobility and movement patterns to identify what is creating the impingement. Treatment builds shoulder capacity from the ground up rather than just treating the symptomatic area.

Frequently asked questions

Is shoulder impingement the same as a rotator cuff tear?

No. Impingement refers to irritation of structures in the subacromial space. It may involve the rotator cuff tendons but does not necessarily mean there is a tear.

Can I continue training with impingement?

Often yes, with modifications. We guide you on which movements to adapt and how to progressively reload the shoulder.
